Bosna Srebrena supports documentary
Tuesday, 21 October 2008 Written by fra Mijo Džolan

friar Mijo DzolanAs the Franciscan Province of Bosnia Srebrena from which Friar Vjeko Curic originated, we gratefully support the initiative of Friar Ivica Peric, Croatian missionary in Kivumu, Rwanda, to make a documentary film on Friar Vjeko Curic - martyr. This will film will be a testimony to Friar Vjeko’s love for the people of Rwanda in the tragic war that took place here in Rwanda. Totally unbiased in his love for the victims, whether Tutsis or Hutus, Vjeko  would pay the greatest price of a martyr’s death in 1998.  Friar Vjeko never gave up, and in this way showed the irresistible beauty of man who had conquered fear for his own life.

We need this film here in Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Europe, America and Australia to rediscover once again the deeper meaning of sacrifice and the truth enshrined in the definition of the Christian as someone who exists for others. Friar Vjeko’s brothers and sisters in Kiwumu, Rwanda need this film in order that they may continue to relate to him in order to grow in love, reconciliation thus raising the level of human dignity.

The film is also needed for its possible financial payoffs which will go towards the continued support of “Father Vjeko” school  in Kivumu, where Friar Ivica Peric - a missionary - together with his associates give themselves relentlessly to the education of intelligent but tragically war-torn and poverty-stricken children. The artistic level of the film “Friar Vjeko Curic - martyr” is guaranteed by the names of such excellent people as  Hrvoje Hitrec - Scriptwriter, Vanja Drach - Narrator and Jakov Sedlar - Director.

I thank you in advance for your participation in the realisation of this project, and hope that your decision will be a reason for long-lasting joy.

With brotherly greetings of Peace and goodwill!

Friar Mijo Dzolan, Provincial
