Practical work for carpenters, new desks and chairs for the primary schoolchildren! |
While most of our students these days are away throughout Rwanda perfecting their practical work skills in numerous workshops, a small number of carpenters remained in Kivumu. They will do their practical work here. They will learn a lot, and we will greatly benefit in the process! The idea of them staying was born several days ago. I was paying a visit to one of our primary schools in a village called Bwirika. And there was plenty to see there... A lot of desks and chairs were in a really bad state - twisted, damaged, and in need of immediate repair. Four students of the first year of carpentry agreed with us to stay in the village and help with the repair of the school desks and chairs, which would count as completing their practical work. They first went with me to the primary school in order to see and make a list of what could be repaired and what needed to be made anew. Now they will transport it all to our vocational school's carpentry workshop where they will get down to business. We have already set aside the planks and all other necessary materials, so the classrooms of the primary school in Bwirika will soon shine in a completely new light!
