People from Baranja are helping construct the secondary school |
A Fair organised by the numismatists, filatelists and Friends of Antiquities Society of Baranja,(North-East Croatia) was held in Beli Manastir for its fourth year, with about thirty exhibitors participating. The Fair was held in the Centre for Culture of Beli Manastir, and for the first time it had a humanitarian aspect. One of the booths organised the sale of stamps and envelopes, collected money to be sent to a missionary priest in Rwanda, Friar Ivica Perić, for the construction of a secondary school. “It is our desire to use our hobby to help others. So we have decided to support the projects of our mission in Africa. By collecting some money for this project in Rwanda, we can also introduce their work to people here”, explained Dražen Bartolović, Chairman of the Society, thanking everyone who gave their donations and supported this humane idea.
During the war in Croatia, when many people had been exiled and later returned to find their homes destroyed and had to be rebuilt, the people from Baranja learned how much humanitarian aid means to those in need. At the Fair, as a sign of gratitude, everyone who gave their donations received an appropriate envelope with a photograph taken in Rwanda and the address for the website where they can see the work that is being done by Friar Ivica Perić and the parish in Kivumu.
