The first group of Friars arrived in Rwanda on 20th February 1983. Kivumu was then given to the Friars as a parish to - be by the Bishop of Kabgayi diocese. At that time Kivumu was a centre under Cheza Parish. In the beginning, the Friars had to live in Cheza parish as they slowly built their friary. Among the first group were: the former minister General Friar Giacomo Bini, Frs. Anselmo and Raul.

On 28th of August 1983 Vjeko Curic arrived in Kigali ready to start his touching mission in Rwanda. Together they slowly developed the Parish with Giacomo Bini as the first Parish priest.
