The first group of Friars arrived in Rwanda on 20th February 1983. Kivumu was then given to the Friars as a parish to - be by the Bishop of Kabgayi diocese. At that time Kivumu was a centre under Cheza Parish. In the beginning, the Friars had to live in Cheza parish as they slowly built their friary. Among the first group were: the former minister General Friar Giacomo Bini, Frs. Anselmo and Raul. On 28th of August 1983 Vjeko Curic arrived in Kigali ready to start his touching mission in Rwanda.
